Broos – The Future Is Secure For Bafana Duo
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Reddit

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has insisted he will make a decision on his future in the “next days or week” but restrained from making an immediate announcement after their elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Broos, 74, became the oldest coach to win a game at the World Cup and previously indicated he would step down after the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

However, after guiding Bafana into the knockout stages for the first time ever he did hint that he could perhaps still stay on as head coach for a little while longer.

On Sunday, in the immediate aftermath of his side’s 1-0 defeat to co-hosts Canada, Broos didn’t want to make any rushed decisions.

“We will see. We will take the decision in the next days,” he said.

“It was a nice World Cup and it will not be an easy decision. But saying now I stop or I go, that I can’t [do].”

‘We were at every big tournament’

In another interview with Mazola Molefe, the Belgian tactician spoke with pride of what he and his players achieved during his rein as Bafana coach.

“Until now it was a fantastic journey,” he stated.

“Ok, it started a little bit difficult but I think after that we did a very good job. Also the players, I’m still proud of this team of what they achieved in the last four to five years.

“Again, I think we can look at the past with happiness, and be happy because we were at every big tournament, we have a bronze medal, and we are in the second round [of a World Cup] – it never happened.

“So I think the last five years were successful. And it’s up to put everything in order and we will see what I will decide in the next days and next weeks.”
