Orlando Pirates have confirmed the departure of five players, including midfielder Sipho Mbule.

Mbule featured in 23 matches across all competitions for the Buccaneers during his stint at the club, scoring one goal.

Nicknamed “The Master Chef”, the midfielder quickly became a fan favourite after arriving in Mayfair and played a key role during the early stages of the season.

Mbule leaves Pirates after one season

His impressive performances earned him a recall to the Bafana Bafana squad, where he was part of the team that secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and also featured at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

However, off-field issues are believed to have affected his standing within the squad in recent months, resulting in reduced game time and eventually his departure from the club.

On Tuesday, Pirates officially announced that Mbule would be leaving alongside four other players.

“The players who will be leaving the Club upon the conclusion of their respective contracts are Bandile Shandu, Sipho Mbule, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Karim Kimvuidi and Deivi Miguel Vieira (Gilberto),” the club said in a statement.

“Each of the players departs having contributed to the Orlando Pirates journey in their own way, and the Club would like to place on record its appreciation for their service during their time with the Buccaneers.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club thanks Bandile, Sipho, Tshegofatso, Karim and Gilberto for their service and wishes them all the best in the next chapters of their respective careers.”

Mbule has already been linked with several clubs following his departure from Pirates, with interest expected to intensify as teams prepare for the new season.

Where should Mbule go?
