Benni Wins CHAN Opener – iDiski Times

Posted on August 3, 2025

Benni McCarthy has started the African Nations Championship on home soil with a 1-0 win over DR Congo.

Kenya are one of the hosts alongside Tanzania and Uganda, and McCarthy will be happy to be off with a winning start.

DR Congo thought they had opened the scoring after six minutes but the strike by Jephte Kitambala was ruled out by VAR.

Instead, the Harambee Stars netted first via Austin Odhiambo in the second minute of first-half injury time.

The goal remained the only one of the match, handing McCarthy a winning start in Group A.

Kenya will face Angola in their second group fixture on Thursday, 7 August.
