Bafana Secure Crucial Victory Over Guinea

Posted on August 12, 2025

South Africa secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Guinea in their second game at the 2024 African Nations Championship at the Mandela National Stadium on Monday afternoon.

After the 1-1 draw against Algeria to open their campaign, a win was imperative for their hopes of keeping up with the North Africans in the group at the summit.

And they got off to the perfect start when Neo Maema was teed up by Thabiso Kutumela after 10 minutes into the game, to slot home a brillaint low finish past Ousmane Camara.

However, the retreated and allowed the West African nation to come at them which proved a decision that backfired for head coach Molefi Ntseki and Moussa Camara levelled matters just eight minutes before half-time.

But they turned up the tempo coming out for the second half, and again, ten minutes in – they put themselves in the driving seat with Kutumela netting a first time finish off Wayde Jooste’s cut back for an impressive victory in Kampala.

Bafana move second into Group C and remain unbeaten, with Niger next on Friday and hosts Uganda next Monday.
