The decisive moment came in the 30th minute when Junior Dion rose highest from a Golden Arrows corner.
The Ivorian forward escaped his marker inside the box before producing a powerful header that flew beyond Ricardo Goss and into the back of the net.
It was a massive moment for Golden Arrows, who immediately had something valuable to protect. The goal allowed the visitors to become even more compact and force Sundowns to find another way through.
Kabo Yellow continued pushing forward after the restart, with Cardoso turning to his substitutes in an attempt to increase the attacking threat.
GOLDEN ARROWS HOLD ON
Despite enjoying long spells of possession, Sundowns simply could not find the finishing touch.
Golden Arrows defended with remarkable discipline and were willing to absorb pressure before looking for opportunities on the counter-attack. The visitors even threatened to double their advantage late in the match.

Sundowns survived those moments and continued searching for an equaliser, but Abafana Bes’thende held firm. The visitors survived seven minutes of stoppage time to secure a famous 1–0 away victory and take a major advantage into the second leg.
Sundowns now face a difficult task in KwaZulu-Natal. They must overturn the deficit while finding a way to break down a Golden Arrows side that has already demonstrated just how difficult they can be to beat.
The second leg promises to be a tactical battle, with Golden Arrows holding the away goal advantage and Sundowns needing a much more clinical performance if they are to keep their MTN8 final hopes alive.
