Mamelodi Sundowns set sights on another European signing
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Mamelodi Sundowns are gearing up for a massive second half of the season.

Masandawana haven’t really looked at their best this season. They trail Orlando Pirates by two points, and they played a game more.

They were also dumped out of both the MTN8 and Carling Knockout, meaning they’re yet to win any silverware.

Mamelodi Sundowns are however still in the CAF Champions League. Winning the continental crown will undoubtedly be highest on the agenda at Chloorkop.

Sundowns linked with Portuguese goalkeeper

The Brazilians will know very well that they need to improve should they wish to defend their league title and win the Champions League.

And now, new reports suggest a busy January transfer window looms at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Farense goalkeeper Brian Araújo has been linked with a sensational move to Masandawana.

“Mamelodi Sundowns are keen to sign Portuguese goalkeeper Brian Araujo from SC Farense. The 25-year-old could be set to provide stiff competition to Bafana Bafana No.1 Ronwen Williams with veteran Denis Onyango close to hanging his gloves,“ an Afrik Foot report read.

Araújo’s numbers in Portugal

The 25-year-old goalkeeper was born in France however, he’s a Portugal citizen.

He’s currently the first-choice goalkeeper at Portuguese second division side Farense.

He has made 11 appearances for his side this season. In total, he has four cleansheets to his name while conceding 14 goals.

His statistics at previous side Gil Vicente are a lot better though. The towering goalkeeper registered six cleansheets in 11 games last season. He also conceded a meagre seven goals for the club.

Mamelodi Sundowns currently have Ronwen Williams, Jody February, Reyaad Pieterse and Denis Onyango on their books.

It remains to be seen whether Onyango will stay on at the club, considering he’s already 40-years-old. Jody February may also be prompted to leave in search of desperate game-time.
