Kaze On Mayo Blunder: ‘Everyone Wasn’t Happy But…’

Posted on October 4, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze says everyone within the team wasn’t happy with Khanyisa Mayo’s blunder but insists it wasn’t “on purpose”.

The new Chiefs signing faced fierce criticism after he, from an offside position, touched Pule Mmodi’s ball just before it crossed the goal line, resulting in the goal being disallowed.

Kaze stated that Mayo himself was displeased with the incident, as it led to the team being denied the victory. They went on to draw 1−1 with AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

He added that it’s something that they are still going to address with the team ahead of going to the next match.

“Everyone was not happy, starting with the player himself, Mayo,” said Kaze.

“It was an unfortunate situation but that costed us two points that we should have won.

“It’s something that we will address in general because it’s not like he did it on purpose to deny his teammate an opportunity to score a goal.”

On a positive note, Kaze explained that Mayo has made a huge impact since arriving at the club, specifically noting that he elevates the performance of the players around him.

“Mayo gives us a different profile he makes the player playing around him look better,” added Kaze.

“He knows how to play and set up his teammates.”
