Orlando Pirates secured a convincing 2-0 victory against TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership match held at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.
Evidence Makgopa netted the decisive goal—his first league strike this season—to seal the victory.
Among the changes Pirates made, they notably welcomed back Relebohile Mofokeng and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, both of whom missed the last CAF Champions League match against Lioli.
The match kicked off with a burst of high energy, as both teams showed their intent, searching for an early goal.
The Sea Robbers took the lead in the 17th minute when Makgopa successfully converted a penalty, which was awarded after Masindi Nemtajela was fouled in the box by Mlungisi Mbunjana.
The Rockets had busy spells at the back as Pirates repeatedly sought to double their lead. Galaxy goalkeeper Ira Tape was pivotal in the 24th minute, saving Kamogelo Sebelebele’s shot inside the box.
The match reached the interval with Bucs leading 1-0.
In the second half, Pirates exploded back onto the field with renewed intensity, determined to add another goal on the scoreboard.
They continued to generate numerous goal-scoring opportunities, primarily by attacking through the flanks and utilising the speed of Mofokeng and Moremi.
The hosts’ attack was further energised by the second-half introduction of Oswin Appollis, resulting in more frequent and sharper entries into the box.
TS Galaxy offered little resistance in their effort to bounce back, meaning the maximum points stayed at home as Mabasa’s header from close range in the 93rd made it 50 Pirates goals for the ‘Sniper’.
