‘Kaizer Chiefs signed a striker from TEMU’

New Kaizer Chiefs striker Flavio Silva has caused a stir online after some lacklustre performances on the pre-season tour in the Netherlands.

The 29-year-old striker was born in Guinea-Bissau and holds Portuguese citizenship.

He has three caps for his country and two goals.

Best Kaizer Chiefs XI next season revealed?

Is Flavio Silva a cow?

The comments sections on articles here at The South African scarcely disappoint. One recent reader says that, by purchasing Flavio Silva, Kaizer Chiefs have got a ‘striker straight off TEMU’ which isn’t kind but it’s kinda funny. Silva didn’t knock the lights out with his performances on pre-season for Chiefs, but neither did the entire team, to be fair. How long will he need to settle into the playing style in South Africa?

Kaizer Chiefs XI with new signings

Bvuma; Monyane, Miguel, Dortley, Shinga; Ndlovu, Cele; Lilepo, Chislett, Mako; Du Preez.

This system would see Mako used in a more advanced role down the left-hand side. What’s painfully obvious, still, is that Chiefs need a conventional striker. Tashreeq Morris isn’t the long-term solution, while Ashley Du Preez prefers operating in the wide areas. New boy Flavio Silva has attracted some criticism after his performances in pre-season.

Why didn’t Chiefs get a deal over the line for Appollis?

According to KickOff, Orlando Pirates have landed an almighty coup in signing Oswin Appollis from Polokwane City. The Sea Robbers managed to pay only R12 million for the star winger despite Polokwane having a much larger number in mind. Polokwane chairman Johnny Mogaladi allegedly has a frosty relationship with the Kaizer Chiefs top brass, meaning a deal between the sides was never likely. Chiefs manager Nasreddine Nabi also feels as though new signing Glody Lilepo can provide a better end-product than Appollis, who only managed two goals and an assist from 25 league outings last term.
