BRAYAN LEÓN FACING ONE-MATCH BAN
Under Premier Soccer League (PSL) regulations, outstanding suspensions carry over into the next domestic competition. That means León must miss Sundowns’ opening match of the 2026/27 campaign despite the suspension being earned in the Betway Premiership.
The 25-year-old has become one of Sundowns’ key attacking players since arriving from Colombian club Independiente MedellÃn during the second half of last season.
He made an immediate impact, scoring 15 goals and providing two assists in 26 appearances across all competitions. His Betway Premiership form was particularly impressive. He found the net 10 times in just 15 league matches.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS FACE ATTACKING TEST
León’s absence gives Mamelodi Sundowns an early selection headache as they target a place in the MTN8 semi-finals. The technical team must now find another player to lead the attack against a determined Polokwane City side.
Coach Miguel Cardoso has four options to choose from. The list includes Iqraam Rayners, Arthur Sales, Lebo Mothiba, and the highly-rated youngster Bennet Mokoena.
The MTN8 quarter-final is scheduled for Saturday, 8 August 2026, with kick-off at 18:00 SAST. The single-leg knockout clash will be played at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.
The Brazilians will also be eager to end their recent disappointment in domestic knockout competitions. Victory will be the order of the day to begin the new season with a statement.
