Durban will host a thrilling continental showdown when South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs take on Ghana’s Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup on Saturday, 26 July 2025, at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium.

A Clash of African Giants

The match brings together two of Africa’s most storied clubs—both boasting massive fanbases and rich football legacies. Asante Kotoko, one of Ghana’s most successful teams with 50 major trophies and two CAF Champions League titles, will test their might against Amakhosi, fresh off their Nedbank Cup triumph at the same venue in May.

Building on a Successful Debut

Launched in 2024, the Toyota Cup made an instant impact when Kaizer Chiefs faced Tanzania’sYoung Africans SCin a sold-out Bloemfontein encounter. The tournament’s growing reputation highlights the demand for high-profile cross-continental club clashes.

Toyota’s Vision: Uniting Africa Through Football

“Mobility, possibility, and connection are at the heart of this tournament,” said Tasneem Lorgat, Toyota South Africa’s General Manager of Marketing. “This year’s theme, ‘Africa Unites,’ reflects our belief in football’s power to bring people together.”

Chiefs & Kotoko Embrace the Occasion

  • Jessica Motaung (Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director): “We’re honored to host Asante Kotoko—a club deeply woven into African football history. Durban, Toyota’s manufacturing hub, is the perfect stage after our Nedbank Cup success here.”

  • Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah (Asante Kotoko Chairman): “This tournament sets the standard for African football. We commend Toyota and Kaizer Chiefs for their vision.”

SABC to Broadcast Live

The SABC will televise the match across the continent, reinforcing its commitment to showcasing iconic African football. “This partnership aligns with our mission to be the continent’s leading sports broadcaster,” said Themba Gwejela, SABC Group Executive.
