Tshegofatso Mabasa sidelined as Orlando Pirates block him from playing against them
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Tshegofatso Mabasa will watch from the stands after Orlando Pirates refused to let him play against them. The club has confirmed he will leave at the end of the season after failing to agree on a new contract.

Mabasa is still a Pirates player until 30 June 2026. However, the club has decided not to field him in any match against them, raising questions about fairness.

Critics argue that if Pirates no longer want the player, they should not prevent him from earning a living or competing professionally. Others say it is common practice in football for clubs to include clauses or make informal agreements to block loaned or outgoing players from facing their parent club.

The situation has sparked debate among fans. Some believe Pirates are within their rights to protect their interests, while others feel Mabasa is being unfairly treated, especially since he is not being given game time and is free to find a new team.

At the centre of the discussion is whether it is fair for a club to refuse a player the chance to play against them, particularly when that player is still under contract but deemed surplus to requirements.
