Stellenbosch sign third player from Sundowns

Tiwani, who joined Sundowns from Sekhukhune United in July 2024, made 15 appearances in all competitions last season.

The highly-rated left-back further represented South Africa’s U20 side at the FIFA U20 World Cup.

His move to Stellies follows after new head coach Gavin Hunt decided against keeping the Azerbaijani defender Turan Manafov, who has returned to his home country to spend the remainder of the 2025–26 season on loan with Gabala FC.

While Tiwani emerged as one of the best left-backs in the league at Sekhukhune, stiff competition from Bafana Bafana international Aubrey Modiba, Thato Sibiya, and Fawaaz Basadien meant Tiwani hadn’t featured in Sundowns colours this season.

According to iDiski Times’ Sinethemba Makonco, the deal is complete, subject to an official announcement.

The Cape Winelands club recently signed two players from Sundowns. Mosa Lebusa joined on a permanent deal, while Kobamelo Kodisang sealed a loan move.

CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ACTION

Meanwhile, Sundowns were held to a 2-2 draw by Sudanese giants Al-Hilal in their CAF Champions League group stage clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Friday.

Coach Miguel Cardoso felt the game was there for the taking: “We had more than enough chances to finish this game off and then we need to be clinical in the box, this is a serious responsibility,” Cardoso told journalists.

“I think they entered our box two times and scored, pretty naïve from our defence,” the Sundowns mentor concluded.

The draw left both teams level at the top of their group with five points apiece after three games played. The crucial reverse fixture is scheduled for Friday, 30 January 2026.
