South Africa’s top eight clubs are now ready to battle for the first MTN8 trophy of the new Betway Premiership season.
Tournament organisers confirmed that this year’s champions will receive R10 million. The popular Last Fan Standing competition will again reward one supporter with R1 million.
There will also be a R20 000 donation for every goal scored during the tournament. This year’s theme is “There can only be ONE!”

ORLANDO PIRATES CHASE HISTORY
Orlando Pirates have another piece of history within reach. Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side can become the first club to win the MTN8 five seasons in a row.
The Buccaneers arrive full of confidence after opening their Betway Premiership campaign with a victory. They will now look to continue that momentum in the Wafa Wafa competition.
Orlando Pirates lifted the trophy last season after beating Stellenbosch FC 3-0 after extra time in the final. Tshepang Moremi scored twice, while Tshegofatso Mabasa added the other goal to seal another memorable triumph.
The quarter-finals will take place this weekend.

- Saturday, 8 August (18:00) – Mamelodi Sundowns vs Polokwane City (Lucas Moripe Stadium)
- Sunday, 9 August (15:00) – AmaZulu FC vs Sekhukhune United (Chatsworth Stadium)
- Sunday, 9 August (18:00) – Kaizer Chiefs vs Lamontville Golden Arrows (FNB Stadium).
KAIZER CHIEFS RETURN TO THE MTN8
Kaizer Chiefs are back in the MTN8 after missing out last season. Fernando da Cruz’s side will host Lamontville Golden Arrows at the FNB Stadium on Sunday.
Amakhosi made a winning start to the new Betway Premiership season. They will now hope to build on that result by booking a place in the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, Mamelodi Sundowns face a difficult test against Polokwane City. AmaZulu FC and Sekhukhune United will also battle for a semi-final place.
The stage is now set for another exciting MTN8 campaign. Orlando Pirates are chasing history. Kaizer Chiefs are back in the competition. By Sunday night, only four teams will remain in the race for the first silverware of the season.
