Stellenbosch FC wrapped up their CAF Confederation Cup campaign on Sunday evening after a 0-0 draw against Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars at the DHL Stadium.
Both teams were already out of the competition, with CR Belouizdad and Otoho qualifying for the knockout stages from Group C. But despite having little but pride to play for, the game started at a good tempo.
Mosa Lebusa’s thumping header in the 27th minute brought out the best in Black Stars goalkeeper Amas Obasogie who kept the match scoreless.
The home team were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position in the opening five minutes, but Thapelo Mokobodi was unable to keep his attempt down, and it flew over Amas Obasogie’s goal. Henri Stanic was unable to steer his 13th-minute header from a corner on target.

Having broken free in the 41st minute, Langelihle Phili should’ve put Stellies ahead, but Singada’s defence held strong as Phili held onto the ball, and his and Muzomuhle Khanyi’s follow-up shots were both blocked and cleared.
Khalud Aucho had a chance for the visitors just before halftime, but his header flew over.
The home team were reduced to ten men moments later, Asekho Tiwani shown a second yellow card for what looked a 50-50 challenge.
At the break, it remained goalless.
Cupido went close just after the break, but his 47th-minute attempt was wide of the goal.
Chances were coming at the other end too, and Sage Stephens did well to deny Ibrahim Imoro in the 52nd minute.
Three minutes later, Stephens pulled off another important save to stop Joseph Guede, as he found himself one-on-one with the keeper.
In the 64th minute, Cupido was brought down in the box, but the referee seemed to play advantage and instead of blowing for a penalty let play go on, with Omega Mdaka’s final attempt going just wide.
Stephens pulled off a great save in the 82nd minute to deny Deus Kaseke’s long-range attempt.
The sides could not cancel each other out as they tie ended in a stalemate.
