AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane says there’s progression at Kaizer Chiefs and the current technical team have been doing well.
Zwane was part of the proverbial ‘reset’ at Chiefs, where they overhauled they squad and made a key emphasis to promote young talent from the development, which included several players he worked with in the DStv Diski Challenge.
The likes of Aden McCarthy, Mduduzi Shabalala, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Wandile Duba are still key members of the first team set-up, while Zitha Kwinika, Dillon Solomons who were signed during his reign in the first team – were starters on Wednesday evening.
While Amakhosi ended their decade long wait for a trophy last season, changes are awaiting, with the expected confirmation of Nasreddine Nabi’s exit – Zwane feels progress has been made
“To be quite honest I wouldn’t want to talk about Chiefs matters, I understand why you’d want to know [my opinion], but to be quite honest, Chiefs are playing well, from what I saw,” Zwane said.
“They are playing well yes… they have progressed, it will always be good to see players like Mduduzi, Mshini – I think he showed his quality, these are the products of Kaizer Chiefs and when they play, it benefits the team.
“Not only Mduduzi, but many other players we saw – just to show people that at the time [I was here] there was a plan anyway [for these talents], but obviously that’s football – when things are not going your way, it’s all about results, but the coaches are doing very well.”
The 52-year-old oversaw 39 games as head coach with 19 wins, seven draws and 13 defeats across all competitions before being demoted to assistant coach to Molefi Ntseki and eventually into a role of Head of Academy – prior to leaving in 2024 for the Usuthu job.
