Williams Opens Up On ‘Issues’ In Bafana Camp

Posted on December 16, 2025

Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams says the team’s current camp has not been one of the best for the senior national team but they’ve sat down and addressed those issues.

Bafana assembled last week for their preparation camp ahead of the trip to Morocco for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) starting next week.

They also have one last international friendly at home against the Black Galaxies of Ghana – their CHAN team made up of locally-based players on Tuesday at Dobsonville Stadium to waive their home supporters goodbye.

The camp has been headlined by strong comments made by head coach Hugo Broos about his unhappiness about young defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi arriving late, even though the coach has since apologised for his choice of words.

In addition, three players – namely Lyle Foster, Sphelelo Sithole and Shandre Campbell – are yet to arrive in camp, with the Bafana skipper also citing some “internal problems” which have been ironed out before heading out to AFCON.

“It’s been a bit of a strange and weird camp for many reasons,” said Williams.

“Obviously we are not a full squad and it’s difficult to prepare like that. We’ve had our own small little problems as a team, but I’m glad those things happened, especially inside the team going into a major tournament now.

“We had a chance to sit together, sort things out, try and fix the issues that we have as a team. And training has been good but we haven’t been at our best as well.

“So I think once the team settles down this week, I think things will be better, because I had a strange feeling this week that, you know, the mood in the team hasn’t been the best.

“But we’ll sort it out and you know we’ll keep fighting.”
