‘Why Kaizer Chiefs signed Maboe’ – Nabi

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has explained why the club signed Lebogang Maboe.

The midfielder joined Amakhosi last week after spending eight years with Mamelodi Sundowns. The 30-year-old is yet to make his debut for the Glamour Boys but could be ready later this month.

Speaking to the media, Nabi explained what the ex-Downs attacker brought to the team.

“Maboe is an intelligent player, and we need his quality, we need him,” the Kaizer Chiefs coach said.

“He has a lot of experience and is coming to help us with that experience from Sundowns. And now, he’s working with the fitness coach [and will be ready] to be with us.”

Nabi says Maboe will help Kaizer Chiefs

Despite Maboe, Amakhosi also signed Luke Baartman, Asanele Velebayi and Etiosa Ighodaro in August.

“We also a lot of players who are yet to get a chance to help the team – [Ethan] Chislett, [Etiosa] Ighodaro, [Asanele] Velebayi and [Luke] Baartman,” Nabi added.

“For sure, in the right time, we will introduce them to make it easy for them,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs are in action on 16 September against Sekhukhune United. Amakhosi are currently second in the Betway Premiership and only behind Sekhukhune on goal difference. A win against Babina Noko will put them top of the log.

Can Amakhosi challenge the league this season?
