What they need to do to qualify for Round of 16 revealed

Mamelodi Sundowns head into their final Group F match against Fluminense with destiny in their hands.

Mamelodi Sundowns take on Fluminense in an eagerly-anticipated FIFA Club World Cup decider with fate in their own hands.

Masandawana started off their campaign with a 1-0 win over Uldan. Thereafter, they lost 4-3 to German giants Borussia Dortmund. So, Sundowns have it all to play for when they take on Fluminense.

WHAT SUNDOWNS NEED TO DO TO QUALIFY FOR NEXT ROUND

The top two teams from each of the each groups will qualify for the Round of 16.

As things stand, Dortmund lead group F with four points from two matches. Meanwhile, Fluminense and Sundowns are locked on three points a-piece. However, the Tshwane Giants are behind on goal difference after Fluminense 4-2 win over Uldan.

Therefore, Sundowns have to WIN to qualify for the Round of 16. A win will secure Sundowns safe passage into the next round. Whilst, a draw would see them eliminated. Likewise, a loss.

The equation is simple but the task is huge – win at all costs. History beckons for Sundowns.

MASANDAWANA MAKING MILLIONS

Speaking of costs, Sundowns have racked in millions of rands during the competition.

Furthermore, they still have millions to play for.

Sundowns have already secured over R200 million. The Brazilians received R170 million for participation and R35 million from their victory over Uldan. Therefore, they have made R205 million already in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Now, they have another R35 million up for grabs. If they are able to beat Fluminense, they will secure R35 million. Meanwhile, a draw would see them bag R20 million.
