Transfer news: Sundowns winger to Stellenbosch

Posted on January 17, 2026

A new chapter is on the cards for Kobamelo Kodisang. The Mamelodi Sundowns winger is on the verge of moving to the Cape Winelands.

According to new reports, Stellenbosch FC are a few moments away from announcing the Seraleng-born winger.

The 26-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Avs FS in Portugal, scoring one goal in five games.

The former Platinum Stars winger was meant to stay with Avs until the end of the season, but the club decided on an early termination of the loan deal.

“SABC Sport can reveal that Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch FC are finalising discussions over a loan move for winger Kobamelo Kodisang for the remainder of the season,” Mazola Molefe reported.

“The public broadcaster understands negotiations between Sundowns and Stellenbosch are at an advanced stage, with both clubs optimistic of concluding a loan agreement before the close of the window,” Molefe added.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS COMPETING IN THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP AND CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

In the meantime, Sundowns have quietly put together a strong league campaign, sitting second on the table behind Orlando Pirates.

Under Miguel Cardoso, Kabo Yellow have collected seven wins, five draws and suffered just one defeat so far.

Their league form has included a number of convincing displays, most notably a 3–0 victory over Magesi FC and a commanding 4–1 win against a resilient Richards Bay FC side, results that underlined their attacking depth and control.

However, that consistency has not carried over into cup competitions. Sundowns’ knockout record this season has raised questions, with early exits denying Cardoso the chance to build momentum outside the league.

They were eliminated in the MTN8 semi-finals after losing a penalty shootout to Orlando Pirates, before suffering another shootout heartbreak in the Carling Knockout Cup, where Marumo Gallants ended their run at the Round of 16 stage.

Despite their strong league position, Sundowns’ struggles in cup football remain a blemish on an otherwise solid campaign.
