Mamelodi Sundowns finally confirmed the signing of another high-profile signing in Lucas Ribeiro Costa from Brazil ahead of the new season.

The Tshwane giants let the cat out of the bag earlier on Thursday when they announced on their social media accounts that: ‘news just in Masandawana, sportscaster Lindiwe Dube has news coming in live from O.R. Tambo International Airport.”

It proved to be the 24-year-old Brazilian attacker Lucas Ribeiro Costa, who will be expected to shine in the PSL and CAF Champions League for Sundowns.

As reported by FARPost, the left-footed Ribeiro Costa landed in South Africa on Tuesday at 4:40 pm and went to Chloorkop. He joins Sundowns from SK Beveren following his impressive spell at the Belgian outfit.

Ribeiro Costa featured in 43 games for SK Beveren, scoring 12 goals and further contributing with 10 assists. He caught the attention of Sundowns after netting 11 goals and providing eight assists last season in Belgium.

RIBEIRO COSTA ‘EXCITED’ TO JOIN SUNDOWNS

“I am really excited to be here,” said Ribeiro Costa in a video posted by Sundowns as the club gave the Brazilian a warm welcome.

Ribeiro Costa added: “I cannot wait to dance to the sound of the drum that encapsulates the yellow nation.”

Ribeiro Costa played his football in Belgium for four years and spent the last two campaigns at SK Beveren. He featured mostly in the second division.

However, in the 2020/21 season, Ribeiro Costa was competing with the big boys in the the top flight’ Jupiler Pro League for Sporting Charleroi.

Ribeiro Costa, who started his career at Pinheiros-SC in Brazil also had a stint in France in Ligue 2 at Valenciennes FC. The other clubs he turned out for include Royal Excel Mouscron, RWD Molenbeek and Royal Excelsior Virton.

The exciting attacker is Sundowns’ third big signing with Argentinian Junior Mendieta joining the club from Stellenbosch FC; and versatile Lesiba Nku, signing from Marumo Gallants.

He will head to the North West in Rustenburg to join the rest of the Sundowns squad for pre-season
