Stellies Star Roped Into Bafana Squad For Rwanda Showdown

Posted on October 12, 2025

Stellenbosch FC defender Thabo Moloisane has been called up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda after the suspension of Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

Mbokazi, 20, received a straight red card in the final seconds of the goalless draw against Zimbabwe on Friday evening, which rules him out for two games – leaving Bafana with Nkosinathi Sibisi, Khulumani Ndamane and Malibongwe Khoza as the other central defensive options.

Moloisane who has been part of the squad on previous occasions, and was a nominee for the PSL Defender of the Season last term, has now been roped in as cover for the final must-win game against Rwanda – which takes place on Tuesday in Nelspruit.

South Africa need to win, and hope Nigeria beat Benin, while a win for the Cheetah’s will see them book their place in the 2026 World Cup – while the Super Eagles could also sneak into the Mundial with a win, if Rwanda beat Bafana.

The match will kick off at 18h00 at Mbombela Stadium – while Benin travel to Uyo to face Nigeria in what will be expected to be a dramatic finale.
