Seven players leave Orlando Pirates, latest departure is a shock

Posted on January 30, 2026

Orlando Pirates have let go of seven players. Some departures were expected, while others came as a massive shock.

Orlando Pirates lose seven players

Pirates are clearing the decks as they aim to launch a final tilt at the title this season. Monnapule Saleng’s exit was expected after a loan spell with Orbit College, although not many expected Sundowns to be his final destination. Young prodigy Mbekezeli Mbokazi has moved to the USA, Tshegofatso Mabasa has been loaned to Stellenbosch, and the latest big departure is that of Olisa Ndah.

  • Sinoxolo Kwayiba (Chippa)
  • Monnapule Saleng (Sundowns)
  • Tshegofatso Mabasa (Stellenbosch, loan)
  • Sifiso Luthuli (Magesi, loan)
  • Siyabonga Ndlozi (Magesi, loan)
  • Olisa Ndah (Free transfer)
  • Mbekezeli Mbokazi (Chicago Fire)

Is Makhaula next out the door?

Speaking to the media, 36-year-old midfield hard man Makhehlene Makhaula has just returned from a lengthy injury layoff. He has expressed his deep desire to win the league before considering retirement.

“I think the young guys always want to challenge me each and every time, even during training, and then you know when I try to take things easy, they come hard on me always,” Makhaula said.

“Only God knows. I’m always praying because my wish is the league. We will see, maybe this season it can happen, but hopefully,” Makhaula said.

“It will be a dream come true because you go to other teams, they don’t even try to fight for the league or something, but with the big teams, you must be with the big teams because big teams are always fighting for something,” he added.
