Reports: Orlando Pirates push to sign Bafana Bafana player
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Orlando Pirates appear to be moving quickly in the transfer market ahead of next season. Reports suggest the Buccaneers are now closing in on highly-rated Polokwane City defender Thabang Matuludi.

The Buccaneers are expected to strengthen several areas of their squad during the upcoming transfer window. Especially with the club preparing for another demanding Betway Premiership and CAF campaign. One position that has attracted serious attention is right-back.

INCOMING NEW RIGHT BACK FOR ORLANDO PIRATES?

According to Kick Off journalist Ernst Fakude, negotiations between Pirates and Polokwane City are now believed to be at an advanced stage.

“Negotiations are now at an advanced stage. Matuludi is expected to be a Pirates player next season,” a source told Kick Off.

THABANG MATULUDI’S RISE CONTINUES

Born in Limpopo on January 14, 1999, the attacking fullback has grown into one of the standout defenders in the Betway Premiership. His combination of physical strength, pace and aerial dominance has made him a difficult player to deal with on the right flank.

Standing at 1.89 metres, Matuludi offers something slightly different from the traditional South African fullback profile. He is aggressive in duels, powerful in the air and comfortable driving forward during attacking phases.

His journey to the top level was far from glamorous. Matuludi emerged from lower-tier football before helping Polokwane City earn promotion back to the PSL. Once Rise and Shine returned to the top flight, he quickly became one of the club’s most important players.

Even a serious knee injury failed to slow down his progress. Instead, the defender returned stronger and continued producing energetic performances on both ends of the pitch.

BAFANA BAFANA CALL-UP BOOSTS HIS STOCK

Matuludi’s impressive form eventually caught the attention of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

The Polokwane City star has since featured in national team squads for important AFCON and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures.

His coach Phuti Mohafe has previously gone as far as describing Matuludi as the second-best right-back in the country behind Mamelodi Sundowns defender Khuliso Mudau.

Orlando Pirates recently did business with Polokwane City with the signing of the sensational Oswin Appollis before the start of the season.
