Mamelodi Sundowns forward Iqraam Rayners says he was left disappointed after he was snubbed for the PSL awards in all but one category.
Rayners, 29, joined Sundowns ahead of 2024/25 from Stellenbosch FC and had an impressive first campaign at Chloorkop, scoring 24 goals and setting up nine more.
Despite 14 of those goals and all nine assists coming in the Betway Premiership, making him the second-most productive player in terms of output, Rayners was not nominated for the PSL Footballer of the Season, nor the Player’s Player of the Season.
Rayners now admitted he was left disappointed by the snub, arguing he deserved to be among the top three.
“Obviously I’m a bit disappointed because what I did last season I had a good season with a good team, good players that were helping me,” he said on the Pitchside Podcast.
“And obviously the coaches who believed in me. So, for me I was disappointed when I see the players that were nominated.
“Don’t you think also, [if you look at] my stats from last season, I think it was good to be in a lot of nominations.”
Rayners believes his teammates Lucas Ribeiro was the best player of the season but then sees himself in second place.
“For me the best player in the league was Lucas obviously,” he continued.
“I think I’m second after Lucas. For me my stats were the second-best. So obviously I was disappointed.”
