Orlando Pirates suffered a second successive defeat after going down 2-1 to Marumo Gallants at Dr Molemela Stadium on Wednesday night.

Washington Arubi was called into action just a minute in by preventing Boitumelo Radiopane’s goal-bound shot before parrying away Tshepho Mashiloane’s cross from danger five minutes later.

Pirates drew first blood from Patrick Maswanganyi, getting on the end of Deon Hotto’s low cross for an easy tap in and make it 1-0 in the 16th minute.

In the 36th minute, Arubi’s triple save from Tshepang Moremi, twice, and Oswin Appollis kept the slender scoreline unchanged.

Scores were level on the stroke of halftime as Daniel Msendami’s belter made it way past Sipho Chaine. 1-1.

The second half hardly produced any clear-cut chances until the 93rd minute when substitute Jaisen Clifford rose high and head past Chaine to hand Bahlabane Ba Ntwa maximum points as they moved top of the Betway Premiership standings.
