Official: City Confirm Hunt Replacement

Posted on December 27, 2025

Durban City have confirmed Sinethemba Badela as their new head coach, replacing Gavin Hunt at the Betway Premiership rookies.

It’s City’s first season in the top-flight since being rebranded from Maritzburg United and despite being in the top half of the table, they parted ways with Hunt, citing a need for change in the second half of the campaign.

With the Premier Soccer League (PSL) currently on pause for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, and the club have now strategically secured Badela, one of the rising coaching talents in the country, with time to work with his new squad before the campaign resumes.

“Durban City FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Sinethemba Badela as the club’s new Head Coach,” read part of the club statement.

“Coach Badela brings valuable top-flight experience and a modern, progressive approach to the game, with a strong focus on youth development. We welcome him to the Citizens family as we continue to build towards an exciting future.”

City are currently in seventh place, six points behind league leaders Orlando Pirates, albeit having played three games more than the Buccaneers.
