Official: Broos Calls Up Chiefs Star To Bafana

Posted on October 7, 2025

Hugo Broos has called up Mduduzi Shabalala to his Bafana Bafana squad for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Broos’ men assembled in camp on Monday, ahead of their qualifiers on 10 and 14 October.

Bafana will first take on Zimbabwe at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday before hosting Rwanda at Mbombela Stadium next week Tuesday.

Shabalala, who had made the preliminary squad but was initially cut, has been called up to replace Mofokeng after his injury in Orlando Pirates’ Carling Knockout clash with Siwelele FC.

He makes the squad for the second successive time after also being in the previous camp, although he didn’t feature against Nigeria or Lesotho.

“We had to replace Rele Mofokeng, because of the injury he got on Saturday. We replaced him by Shabalala,” he said.

“Secondly, there are still two players who didn’t arrive because they played yesterday. Foster and Sithole, they will arrive tomorrow morning.

“Tomorrow afternoon we will be complete to do the training.”
