Arsenal have announced the signing of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres for around £55m on a long-term deal.

The Swedish international has been the Gunners’s primary focus this transfer window though they have previously being linked with Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig.

Mikel Arteta’s side finally managed a breakthrough in negotiations after the player’s agent agreed to lower his commission in order to see the deal through.

Gyökeres joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 and has been a menace in front of goal scoring an impressive 97 goals in just 102 matches during his two seasons in Portugal.

Last term, the 27-year-old capped off an incredible 54 goals in only 52 games across all competitions helping Sporting to win the league and the Portuguese Cup.

He becomes the Emirates Stadium’s fifth signing following the arrivals of Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Nørgaard and Noni Madueke.
