Odd one out at Orlando Pirates to leave permanently in January?

Posted on January 14, 2026

Orlando Pirates might have to make some unpopular transfer decisions this month with several senior players on the fringes of the first team.

Maswanganyi no longer fits the Orlando Pirates system

Patrick Maswanganyi has been unpredictable with his output at Pirates, sometimes sizzling but often disappointing. The undoubtedly gifted left-footer has featured nine times in the league out of a possible 12, chipping in with three goals and an assist. With a new signing in the building, his game time might diminish further.

De Jong is the latest new Sea Robber

29-year-old New Zealander Andre De Jong arrives at Pirates with a reputation for being a number 10 with a good work ethic and tactical intelligence. If we assume he’s an automatic starter, is this how the Bucs starting XI would look? He’s not the most prolific player, with just two goals and an assist this season in the league for Stellies, but he is reliable, having played in all 14 Betway Premiership matches so far.

Is this the best Orlando Pirates XI?

Chaine; Lebitso, Seema, Sibisi, Ndaba; Nduli, Mbatha; Appollis, De Jong, Mofokeng; Makgopa

This would see attacking midfield trio Tshepang Moremi, Sipho Mbule and Maswanganyi having to be content with a place on the bench. Do they have futures at the club?

What’s next for Bafana superstar Rele Mofokeng?

21-year-old superstar winger Rele Mofokeng must ponder offers from Russia, Israel, the United States and Saudi Arabia. However, some readers have suggested that a move to Sundowns wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility. After all, they have the money, and they’re perennial champions of South Africa. The Bafana man is still getting going this season, yet to score in the league after nine outings.
