Nigerians call on FIFA and CAF to deduct three points from Bafana Bafana

Posted on March 25, 2025
South Africa risks losing 3 points and 3 goals for allegedly fielding Teboho Makoena against Lesotho, as he was ineligible due to accumulated yellow cards.
Nigerian football fans, along with other football enthusiasts across Africa, are urging Lesotho to file a formal protest against South Africa for fielding Teboho Mokoena in their match last Friday. They claim Mokoena was ineligible to play due to the accumulation of two yellow cards.
According to FIFA’s World Cup qualification rules, any player who receives two yellow cards during the qualifying phase is subject to suspension for the following match. These fans argue that Mokoena had already been booked against Benin and Zimbabwe, making him ineligible for the fixture against Lesotho.
The fans have tagged FIFA and CAF, demanding that South Africa be penalized by deducting three points and three goals for fielding an ineligible player.
If this claim is accurate, do you think Lesotho should pursue the matter further?
