Mayele Acknowledges Kaizer Chiefs Interest But Focused on Champions League Final

Posted on May 22, 2025

Pyramids FC striker Fiston Mayele has confirmed contact with Kaizer Chiefs but insists his immediate focus remains on Saturday’s CAF Champions League final against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The DR Congo international told SABC Sport: “Yes, there have been discussions with Chiefs, but right now my mind is 100% on making history with Pyramids in the final. After the match, we can talk about the future.”

Mayele’s comments come amid growing speculation about a potential move to Naturena, with Chiefs reportedly ready to activate his €1.2 million release clause. The 29-year-old has been in blistering form, scoring 8 goals in Pyramids’ Champions League campaign.

The striker’s revelation adds intrigue to Africa’s club showpiece, where he’ll face a Sundowns defense that knows a strong performance could scupper their rivals’ transfer plans. Pyramids coach Jaime Pacheco has warned his players against distraction: “This final is bigger than any transfer talk.”

With the continental decider taking place in Cairo, Mayele has the perfect stage to prove his worth to potential suitors – or convince his current employers to block any move. Chiefs fans will be watching closely as their prospective signing tests himself against South Africa’s champions.
