Mashego Opens Up on Sundowns Exit

Posted on October 9, 2025

Terrence Mashego has opened up on leaving his parent club Mamelodi Sundowns for a season-long loan at Durban City.

The left-back joined ‘The Citizens’ in the recent transfer window, seeking more minutes after struggling somewhat for playing time at Sundowns.

He has already played three Betway Premiership matches and one in the Carling Knockout Cup. He missed one league outing against parent club Sundowns due to a clause in the loan agreement between the two clubs.

Mashego says he was thrilled when the Brazilians made him aware of the move to the KZN outfit, believing he’d get an opportunity to play regularly.

He emphasised that during his stay at City, he wants to ensure that he enjoys his football and plays with the same passion he had previously.

“When I got the message from the Sporting Director Flemming [Berg], telling me that they had agreed on terms with Durban City, I also got a call from the chairman of Durban City, sending me a message, I thought, let me just drive,” Mashego told iDiski Times.

“Honestly, I was waiting for that message because after CHAN, I trained with Sundowns for a week or two.

“So, I was waiting for that moment to say, ‘Okay, I’m either staying with the team or going out on loan to Durban City’. When I got that message, I was like God has answered my prayers, I was like, ‘Let me go and try to enjoy my football’.

“That was one thing that was on my mind to say, go there and enjoy football.”
