Look away Kaizer Chiefs fans: Amakhosi slayer set to return to haunt them next season?

Kaizer Chiefs will see their trophy draught enter an eighth season, and a big reason for why it still exists, is believed to be on his way back to the topflight!

Yes, you guessed it Former Baroka FC midfielder Manuel Kambala is reportedly on his way back to the DStv Premiership, providing terrible flashback for Chiefs.

Kambala became a cult hero for Chiefs’ rival fans when he famously scored the equaliser that eventually saw Amakhosi slip to second on the last day of the then ABSA Premiership. A well taken free kick to the back post, saw the Mozambican international towering over the oppositions’ defence and slotting his header past the hapless Itumeleng Khune in goal. Just like that, with Mamelodi Sundowns beating Black Leopards at Loftus Versfeld, they were able to topple the Soweto giants, crushing their league title dream.

What made the impact of Kambala’s goal even more painful for Chiefs but sweeter for their rivals fans was the fact that it saw the then Ernst Middendorp side break an unwanted record of being the first side to lead the league standings for over a year, yet still not end up winning the trophy. The club has not managed to recover nor challenge in that manner since.

Now to make things worse, Kambala could be set for another match or two against Chiefs, if the latest news from KickOff.com is true.

KAMBALA TO HAUNT CHIEFS?

“The 31-year-old midfielder is a free agent after having parted ways with Mostepe Foundation Championship side Magesi. Kambala’s representatives are in talks with KwaZulu-Natal outfit Royal AM, KickOff has gathered. Royal AM are the second top-Night team to show interest in Kambala behind TS Galaxy, who recently pulled out of the race after negotiations collapsed.” Wrote the publication.

Now with Royal AM being banned by FIFA from registering new players, it remains to be seen if Kambala’s return will still materialise. Could he strike a compromise with TS Galaxy perhaps? Chiefs fans will be hoping he can’t.
