LIVE | Arsenal vs Liverpool

Posted on January 8, 2026

Premier League leaders Arsenal will look to reinforce their title credentials when they host defending champions Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday.

Kick-off is at 22:00 (SA time).

Match news and current form

Arsenal come into the match in strong form, having extended their winning run to seven matches in all competitions with a 3-2 comeback victory over Bournemouth.

Five of those wins have come in the league, leaving Mikel Arteta’s side five points clear at the top of the table ahead of kick-off.

The Gunners have been particularly dominant at home this season, recording 14 wins from 15 home matches across all competitions (D1), including victories in each of their last 12.

Arsenal have also won their last two home league matches against the reigning Premier League champions, although they have not achieved that feat in three consecutive seasons since the 1960s.

Liverpool arrive in north London after a 2-2 draw with Fulham, where they conceded a late equaliser in stoppage time.

While Arne Slot’s side have not been consistently at their best, they remain difficult to beat, going nine matches unbeaten in all competitions (W5, D4). Five of those games were away from home (W3, D2).

The Reds are inside the top four and have enjoyed recent success in the capital, with two wins and a draw from their last three away league matches in London.

Head-to-head

Liverpool hold a strong historical advantage in this fixture, having recorded 26 Premier League wins against Arsenal, more than any other club.

They are seeking an eighth Premier League double over the Gunners after winning 1-0 in the reverse fixture in August.

Across all competitions, Liverpool have lost just two of the last 13 meetings between the sides (W6, D5).

Key statistics

  • Nine of Arsenal’s last 11 domestic matches have seen both teams score
  • Arsenal’s last four home games featured more second-half goals than first-half goals
  • Liverpool have trailed at half-time only once in their last 10 matches
  • Seven of Liverpool’s last nine away fixtures produced over 2.5 goals

Players to watch

Bukayo Saka has scored nine of his last 11 Premier League goals at home and has found the net in Arsenal’s last three home league matches against Liverpool. No Arsenal player has previously scored in four consecutive home league meetings with the Reds.

For Liverpool, Cody Gakpo has been effective away from home, with all three of his league goals this season coming against London-based opponents.

Team news

Arsenal have reported no new injury concerns ahead of the fixture. Liverpool, however, will assess the fitness of Hugo Ekitike, who missed the draw against Fulham.

With both sides in strong form and the title race taking shape, the encounter will have significant implications at the top of the Premier League table.

Prediction

Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool
