Kaizer Chiefs youngster impress club legend

Posted on September 9, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has praised young defender Aden McCarthy’s performance this season.

The 21-year-old has formed a formidable pairing with Miguel Inacio at the back without conceding. McCarthy was voted Man of the Match twice in five matches this season and Khumalo feels the future is bright for the youngster.

Speaking on the DNA Podcast, the Kaizer Chiefs legend felt McCarthy could potentially play for Bafana Bafana in the future.

“I think because of the balance at the back, remember they [Chiefs] tried [Edmilson] Dove in that central position,” said Khumalo.

“And then they tried also to play with the two right footed players with central, but it didn’t give them the balance. So, the coach, not forced, but I think he decided to play McCarthy in that position.

Kaizer Chiefs are yet to concede this season

“And what a composed player, stability, confidence and he’s very arrogant. But the problem the last game they played now he got out with a little bit of a hamstring problem.

“So maybe that’s another reason why the coach [Hugo Broos] didn’t call him up, but like you are saying from 2026 going forward we are good,” Khumalo said.

McCarthy could be available for Kaizer Chiefs’ next match against Sekhukhune United next week.

How good has McCarthy been this season?
