Kaizer Chiefs transfer news: Two strikers

Posted on August 5, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has confirmed the club’s interest in signing Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro from Mamelodi Sundowns, as the Soweto giants continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

It has been an open secret that Amakhosi are looking to reinforce their attack before the transfer window closes in September, with Ighodaro emerging as a key target.

The 24-year-old forward, who has a contract extension option on his expired Mamelodi Sundowns deal, has spent the past four seasons on loan at AmaTuks, Chippa United, SuperSport United and AmaZulu.

Ighodaro netted six goals in 27 appearances for AmaZulu last season and previously impressed at Chippa United, where he scored double-digit goals in the 2022/23 campaign.

Despite joining Sundowns in 2021, he has yet to make a senior appearance for the club, having developed through various loan spells.

Speaking at the league’s launch event, Nabi addressed the situation: “Ighodaro is a good player, but he belongs to another team, and there are administrative issues involved. If he joins us, great. If not, there are other strikers we’re considering,” said the Tunisian coach.

He added: “The player—or another striker on our list—will be welcomed. But we must wait for the administrative side of things to be sorted before anything is finalise,” Nabi concluded.
