Kaizer Chiefs Set to Secure Rising Star Ozoemena With Long-Term Deal

Kaizer Chiefs are reinforcing their commitment to youth development by finalizing a five-year contract for promising academy graduate Manqoba “Pelembe” Ozoemena, according to sources close to the club.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who has impressed in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) this season, is expected to commit his future to Amakhosi until June 2030. The move aligns with the Soweto giants’ strategy to build a competitive squad around homegrown talent, following the lead of rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Discussions over Ozoemena’s promotion began after his involvement in the first team’s pre-season tour of Turkey last year. However, the club delayed finalizing terms to allow the new technical staff to assess the squad and prioritize signings.

“After his consistent performances in the DDC, the club has decided to secure him long-term,” an insider revealed. “Chiefs see him as part of their future core and want to integrate more development players into the senior setup.”

Initially, Chiefs considered loaning out Ozoemena for first-team experience but instead kept him in the DDC to closely monitor his progress. The decision appears to have paid off, with coaches noting his technical growth, composure in midfield, and emerging leadership traits.

“Retaining him in the DDC has helped his development,” another source added. “The coaching staff believes he’s ready to make the step up to the senior team.”

While the club has yet to officially confirm the deal, Ozoemena’s potential promotion signals Chiefs’ intent to prioritize youth development. His rise also highlights the increasing emphasis on academy products in South Africa’s top-flight clubs.

No comment was received from Kaizer Chiefs’ management at the time of publication. If finalized, the contract will position Ozoemena as a key figure in the club’s long-term vision.
