Kaizer Chiefs’ next coach: Candidates ranked
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Here is your latest round-up of Kaizer Chiefs news and rumours.

Kaizer Chiefs are guarenteed to finish the 2025/26 Betway Premiership in third place. This means that Amakhosi management have a tough decision to make over their current head coaches – Cedric Kaze and Ben Youssef.

Interestingly, an ex-Mamelodi Sundowns coach and Pitso Mosimane continues to be linked with the club. Similarly, a couple of outbound Orlando Pirates players names have come up as potential signings ahead of the up-and-coming PSL transfer window.

BIG DECISION TO BE MADE ON KAZE AND YOUSSEF

As mentioned, Amakhosi management have a big decision to make. On a positive note, Kaze and Youssef led Kaizer Chiefs to third place this season, therefore ensuring that Amakhosi qualify for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup. That is a substantial improvement from last season’s 10th-place finish under Nasreddine Nabi.

However, the pair failed to win any silverware this season. Given the rich history and stature of the club, they are expected to win trophies every season. However, it was Nabi who broke a 10-year trophy drought when they won the Nedbank Cup last season. That was not enough to save his job as the Tunisian was sacked at the end of the season.

MANQOBA MNGQITHI TO COACH KAIZER CHIEFS?

As things stand, Amakhosi management are reportedly leaning towards keeping Kaze and Youssef as assistant coaches, with former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mnqithi the front-runner to take charge of the Glamour Boys next season.

Innocent Mkhize, a Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates insider has supported these claims.

“Based on reliable information, those two coaches are staying,” Innocent Mkhize said on X.

“The plan at Kaizer Chiefs is to add one senior figure to the technical team, with Manqoba Mngqithi currently top of the list,” he added.

PITSO MOSIMANE REALITY REMAINS THE SAME FOR AMAKHOSI

The reality is that Pitso Mosimane is available and he is open to joining Kaizer Chiefs. However, they have still not approached ‘Jingles’ as yet.

So, the powerful prospect of Mosimane joining the club remains a possibility. However, to turn this possibility into probability, Amakhosi management must table an offer for Mosimane. It will be interesting to see what they decide to do at the end of the season.

ORLANDO PIRATES TARGETS KAIZER CHIEFS COULD – AND SHOULD – SIGN

Outbound striker, Tshegofatso Mabaso and skilful midfielder Kabelo Dlamini both present strong potential signings for Kaizer Chiefs from Orlando Pirates next season.

Mabasa, who is currently on loan with Stellenbosch FC, is not keen to return to the Bucs with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu and African giant Al Ahly have all been linked with an interest in the Orlando Pirates attacker.

Meanwhile, Dlamini will need to leave the Bucs in order to revive his Bafana Bafana career. This opens the door to a potential offer from Kaizer Chiefs. Although, it must be noted this is a potential prospect and there has been no interest shown by Amakhosi as yet.
