Kaizer Chiefs have enjoyed a stuttering first-half of the 2025/26 campaign.
The Glamour Boys started the league campaign brightly however they’ve since slightly fallen off the pace.
Their early Carling Knockout cup exit was offset by their CAF Confederation Cup qualification.
There too though, things aren’t going exactly according to plan. The Glamour Boys have picked up just one point from their opening two group stage matches.
Kaizer Chiefs linked with Spanish coach
After going four matches without a victory, reports suggest the alarm bells are ringing at Naturena.
Co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze haven’t exactly been terrible. But the truth is, they haven’t shown much progression either.
And now, reputable local publication Soccer Beat are claiming Kaizer Chiefs are keeping strong tabs on a Spanish tactician!
So who exactly is the Spanish coach that’s being linked with Chiefs? His name is Raul Caneda.
Caneda is a 57-year-old Spanish coach who’s currently out in China coaching Zhejiang FC.
He previously enjoyed a number of stints in the Middle East. Between 2012 and 2020, the UEFA Pro coaching license holder coached Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, Umm Salal and Khor Fakkan.
Guardiola is a fan of Caneda
Almost two decades ago, Caneda acted as an assistant coach to Juanma Lillo at Spanish side Real Sociedad.
Lillo also happened to be Pep Guardiola’s trusted assistant coach at Manchester City for approximately 250 matches, during two stints between 2019 and 2025.
Kaizer Chiefs linked Caneda was reportedly once called ‘a privileged football mind’ by Pep Guardiola, according to Soccer Laduma.
While the interest is certainly there, it remains to be seen whether the Glamour Boys will act on it and try to lure the experienced Spanish coach to Naturena.
