Kaizer Chiefs Focus on Retaining Key Players Amid Squad Revamp

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is not only looking to strengthen the squad with new signings ahead of the upcoming season but is also prioritizing the retention of key players whose contracts are set to expire in June. The club has been working behind the scenes to secure the futures of several important squad members.

So far, Chiefs have successfully renewed the contracts of three players. In February, midfielder Edson Castillo, who joined from South America, signed a two-year extension that will keep him at Naturena until at least June 2027.

Striker Ashley du Preez, despite facing limited playing time under Nabi, also committed his future to the club in March by signing a new two-year deal, extending his stay until 2027.

The third key renewal involves captain Yusuf Maart. The club triggered an option to extend his contract by one season and added a further one-year option for the 2026-27 campaign. Maart has been a reliable figure for Chiefs, featuring in 90 competitive matches while contributing six goals and eight assists.

With these extensions secured, Nabi and the club’s management can now focus on further reinforcing the squad ahead of the new season.
