iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye has critiqued Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s substitution of Patrick Maswanganyi in the MTN8 semi-final 2nd leg match against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Pirates came into the game with a 1-1 draw from the first leg and the coach started ‘Tito’ before hauling him off for Bandile Shandu in the 39th minute when Sundowns was leading the encounter 1-0. Pirates eventually equalised and went on to win the tie 4-1 on penalties to stay on cause to win the Wafa Wafa trophy for a fourth time in a row.
Khanye says even though the decision benefitted the team because it meant change of position for the man who netted the equaliser, he felt it was at the cost of the Tito’s well-being.
“I think the coach made sacrifices in the first 20 minutes,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“None other than that tactical change from the coach though I don’t agree with what he did because psychologically that hurt Tito. I know he has won but to sacrifice a player that could have won the game for you playing to his strength I think it hurt Tito Maswanganyi.
“Yeah, the decision worked for the team and the coach; the coach benefitted from that.”
