Johnson: ‘It’s surprising people don’t want you with that experience’

Posted on July 3, 2023

Former Al Ahly SC assistant coach and Platinum Stars head coach Cavin Johnson has given an update on his hunt for a new job.

Johnson has been unattached since he left the CAF Champions League champions in September 2021, where he was an assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane.

Before then, he had mentored Platinum Stars, SuperSport United, AmaZulu and Black Leopards.

The 64-year-old coach confirmed he has received several enquiries, but no club has presented him with an offer. He says it’s “surprising” teams are ignoring him considering the experience he has acquired over the years.

CAVIN JOHNSON GIVES UPDATE ON HIS HUNT FOR A NEW JOB

“There’s been quite a bit brought on the table, people phone all the time but nothing positive [yet],” Johnson told FARPost.

“It’s always questions, always enquiries but nothing comes back and say we’re ready to cut the deal, we’re ready to make something happen.

“It’s very surprising to me, but we will wait. In the meantime, you try and help where you didn’t help before when you had the job. Like for example, you’re going out helping younger coaches, explaining to them what football is all about.
