Gallants Shock Downs In CKO

Posted on October 5, 2025

Marumo Gallants secured their first-ever win over Mamelodi Sundowns, beating tgem 7-6 on penalties to knock last year’s finalists out of the competition.

New signing Reisinho was named on the bench for the first time, while Keanu Cupido returned to the starting XI.

Sundowns dominated the first half, especially via the lively looking Tashreeq Matthews but failed to create any real scoring opportunities.

Sundowns came with new impetus out of the break, with Khuliso Mudau having a shot that just missed the goal before a deflected shot by Arthur Sales just missed the goal in successive minutes.

The next big chance came after 65 minutes when Washington Arubi denied Aubrey Modiba before Malibongwe Khoza fired the rebound over.

Sundowns did have the ball in the back of the next two minutes later but Rayners scored from an offside position.

Teboho Mokwena almost broke the deadlock after 80 minutes but his header following a corner just hit the bar.

The home side were reduced to 10 men after 85 minutes when new signing Reisinho was sent off, just six minutes after coming on for his debut.
