EPL star tips Mofokeng for overseas switch

Posted on December 12, 2025

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder and English Premier League (EPL) star Marshall Munetsi believes Relebohile Mofokeng has what it takes to move to Europe.

The 21-year-old has been linked to several clubs overseas for over a year but is yet to leave South Africa.

Munetsi, who now plays for English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, has praised the young winger and backed him to leave the Buccaneers.

“I think Rele is ready,” the EPL replied to Michael Morton‘s question regarding Mofokeng’s potential move to Europe.

“I think it’s always the right time to move when you’re young. I hope the people who are surrounding him will probably give him the best advice to move. I think for me, he’s the one you look on paper and you look at the talent-wise, with the future he has, he can do it,” Munetsi said.

He said the young winger needed to be consistent for club and country to secure a move overseas.

Munetsi played two years for Pirates before leaving for France in 2020. He admits he still supports the Buccaneers and whenever he gets a chance, he will watch some of their matches.

“I watch probably almost everytime I get a chance and Pirates is close to my heart so everytime I watch one of their games, you know, they do have quiet a new team now. I think it’s probably the time to chase for the championship, they should be able to do that,” he said.

Mofokeng was heavily linked with a move to EPL side Wolverhampton Wanderers late last year but it is believed Munetsi’s team did not table an offer for the Buccaneers.

In recent months, the 21-year-old was rumoured to have attracted teams in the USA as well as the Middle East.
