Chiefs Spurn Two Points With Missed Pen & Mayo Blunder

AmaZulu managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium after Khanyisa Mayo denied his own teammate a clear goal, which would’ve changed the complexion of the game.

Chiefs started the game on the front foot and created several chances, but the final touch seemed to be missing.

But after 21 minutes the home side found themselves trailing when Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya found himself at the end of a powerful Andiswa Sithole cross to head home.

Amakhosi had a chance to equalise after 28 minutes but Glody Lilepo missed a penalty, with Darren Johnson denying him with a superb save.

Chiefs, though, did equalise just two minutes later when Mduduzi Shabalala beat Johnson with a superb finish with his weaker right foot.

The home side should’ve been ahead at the break but Khanyisa Mayo literally stole a goal from his own teammate Pule Mmodi, who had chipped the ball over Johnson only for Mayo to tap the ball over the line from an offside position.

Usuthu came revived out of the break and were more resilient in denying Chiefs scoring opportunities after the break.

The point sees Chiefs stay in sixth place with 14 points, while AmaZulu are ninth with 11. However, both still have games in hand over most teams ahead of them on the log.
