Chiefs Ran Out Of Luck – Khanye

Posted on February 16, 2026

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye says his former side ran out of luck following the side’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup.

Chiefs lost 2-1 to Zamalek in Egypt in their final Group D match on Saturday to finish in third place equal on 10 points with Al Masry in second position however Masry went through because of better goal difference.

Khanye applauded Amakhosi for reaching this far in the competition. However, he noted how he feels they benefitted from match officials’ decisions adding that not doing the things right has caught up with them even mentioning the side’s inconsistencies on the domestic front.

“The sad truth is that we shouldn’t be here and sometimes in life you run out of luck,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“I will compliment Kaizer Chiefs for getting to this stage, going to Egypt and scoring one goal. They have tried their best, but it was not meant to be. And when I say we shouldn’t be here it’s because Kaizer Chiefs against Al Masry they won 2-1, the referee denied Al Masry goals when they were playing home in Polokwane.

“There was a very clumsy foul on the striker who wears jersey number 9. But also, as a South African I want South African teams to win but I want our teams to win doing well because it benefits South African football. I will applaud you and sometimes you can play well and not have the luck. Last week, Chiefs played against Al Masry and the referee was the decider of that game and he denied them a penalty, and the reality check came today.

“Coming to this game Chiefs struggle with high profile games because there is no way you are not consistent in the Betway Premiership and you want to climb here. It’s not going to be possible.”
