Kaizer Chiefs loanee Xolani Cossa handed Black Lions their first win of the season on debut with a stunning long-range free kick in their 1-0 win over Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s Matebele FC in the FNB Botswana Premiership.
Cossa, 21, turned out for Amakhosi’s DStv Diski Challenge side last season, helping them to secure their first ever title.
He was then rewarded with a senior contract by the Chiefs management before heading out on loan for the remainder of the season at Lions.
The left-footed defender who made waves in the youth ranks, was named U19 Player of the Season in 2022, and voted Players’ Player of the Season at the end of the 2023/24 DDC campaign.
Lions, under the tutelage of former Magesi FC head coach Owen da Gama, started the league with three successive defeats, but Cossa’s arrival has changed things for the better playing a major role in their first league win of the new term.
