Chiefs Coach On Mayo Blunder & Missed Pen

Posted on October 1, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs coach Khalil Ben Youssef has insisted he was happy with the performance of his side but they missed too many chances, including the penalty and Khanyisa Mayo’s blunder.

Chiefs were dominant, especially in the first half but wasted too many chances. After Gaston Sirino missed a penalty last week, Glody Lilepo stepped up this week but also missed.

In addition, Mayo denied his own teammate Pule Mmodi a certain goal after pushing it over the line from an offside position, leaving even his coach a little speechless.

“What can I say,” he told SuperSport TV.

“The first 30 minutes in the first half we created minimum four chances to score, then we concede a goal where we don’t concentrate, we’re not focussed in small details.

“It’s very tough for the players, mentally, when you have a penalty and miss a penalty but we continue to fight, we score the goal by Shabalala.

“Then we get another opportunity, we score, it would’ve been a goal [but] Mayo touched the ball in offside.

“Also, the second half I think we deserved to win, we deserved three points. I feel happy about the performance, the result will come with time.”
