Cafu, Baartman, Motaung Junior in the mud

Today’s Kaizer Chiefs transfer news looks at a stalled deal for Thibang Phete and links to teenage striking prodigy Luke Baartman.

31-year-old Phete wants a return to the PSL, and Sekhukhune are frontrunners to sign him.

Meanwhile, Chiefs have a golden opportunity to land Baartman for a cut price.

Chiefs are still chasing Spurs duo Velebayi and Baartman

22-year-old winger Asanele Velebayi made 23 appearances in the 2023-2024 Betway Premiership season. Striker Baartman, still just 19, made nine league appearances in the same season, scoring twice. Baartman has a massive ceiling and wouldn’t represent an enormous financial risk in terms of outlay.

Why the Cafu deal has gone cold

Thibang ‘Cafu’ Phete has dropped a strong hint that he’s ready to return home. Local outlet FARPost believe Sekhukhune are favourites to sign a man whose extensive experience includes stints in Portugal and the UAE. Phete has four caps for South Africa. Could Kaizer Motaung Junior and his colleagues have done more to convince the player to join their project?
